Chief Executive Officer of Leading Age Services Australia – Victoria (LASA Victoria) Trevor Carr welcomed the announcement of Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull’s cabinet ministry and looks forward to a constructive relationship with the new government

However, Mr Carr was disappointed that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has not appointed a Minister for Ageing to his new cabinet.

“LASA Victoria has been appealing for all State and Federal political parties to appoint or commit to appointing a senior cabinet Minister for Ageing,” Mr Carr said

“Australians deserve the attention and focus of an informed, dedicated Minister for Ageing.

“It is time that the hard work and taxes paid by those now needing access to the aged care system, to be treated with respect."

Mr Carr said recent policy and funding decisions have had a detrimental effect on age care providers, residents and their families and those receiving care in the home.

“The need for such an appointment is paramount and clearly reflected in the demographic data in the 2015 Intergenerational Report and LASA Victoria will continue advocating for a dedicated minister responsible for aged care,” Mr Carr said.

LASA Victoria congratulates former Minister for Social Services Scott Morrison MP on his appointment to Treasurer and the Assistant Minister for Ageing Senator Mitch Fifield on his appointment to Minister for Communications and Arts.

Mr Carr said he looks forward to working with the incoming Minister for Social Services Christian Porter.
